I had an extreme case with a college football player who was in his first year of college. He was going to get benched and possibly lose his football scholarship because his health issues were hindering his ability to play. He had a condition commonly known as Crohn’s Disease, which is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It causes inflammation of your digestive tract, which can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss and malnutrition. In extreme cases it causes anal bleeding and fissures.
He and his family were at a wedding and happened to be sitting at a table where one of my patients was sitting. My patient that they were sitting next to knew that I specialize in digestive issues and gut restoration. My patient suggested that he come to me for help and that’s how this college football player became one of my patients.
This boy’s father also had Crohn’s Disease and had a bowel resection at a young age. The father said, “I don’t want the same fate for my son so we will do whatever it takes to get him well.”
I analyzed his body using Nutrition Response Testing and found several types of immune challenges as well as sensitivity to certain types of foods with dairy, wheat, corn and white sugar. I also had to do some advanced Nutrition Response Testing procedures to find more specific issues affecting his colon.
I recommended a specific protocol of diet, nutritional supplements and enzymes unique to his specific situation that I found with the testing. He said, “I’m going to do this. I need to do this. I’m going to cook all of my own food.” He was 19 years old, lived off campus and wanted to learn how to cook.
He took the whole food and herbal supplements, followed the dietary guidelines religiously and it didn’t take long to see incredible results. He was able to make a complete recovery without medication, kept his scholarship and continued to play football. He did not have to give up on his dreams because of his health.
Making one simple decision to take the first step in changing his health allowed him to change his entire life’s trajectory. He saved himself! This is why what we do is so important.
